Europass– Which one do you prefer? There are many types of
Europasses. You need to determine which one works to your advantage. The
price of the various
Europasses is based on the number of countries you
want to visit. In some cases, you may qualify for a discount – usually a
youth discount for people under the age of 26. Even thought the
Europass advertises unlimited train travel – this is not true. The basic
Europass
(cheapest one) without discounts only covers Switzerland, France, Italy,
Germany and Spain. This pass is valid for a two-month period, but you
are only permitted to use it five days out of these two months. You
cannot travel for consecutive days. If you want additional travel days
or countries, there will be an extra charge. When you purchase an Europass, you will qualify for discounts on Eurostar and specific
companies for river travel. In some cases, the river travel is free.
Restrictions apply so look into it before you plan on using these
discounts. The Eurostar discounts do not apply to all Eurostar trips.
The Europass is relatively expensive so be very careful not to lose it.
If you suspect that you probably will lose it, then you might want to
purchase the Europass with the Rail Protector Plan. In the event that
your pass is lost/stolen, you will be reimbursed for the unused portion
of the pass. Be sure to read all the limitations of the pass before
actually buying it.
Europass Make a Reservation The Europass Saver is also available – this requires a group of two
or more traveling at the same time. This is 15% cheaper than the regular
Europass and adding countries or days is also cheaper. All the discounts
and restrictions that apply to the regular Europass also apply to the
Europass Saver. The Europass Youth requires that you be less than 26
years old. This pass is 30% cheaper than the regular Europass. Adding
countries or days is also cheaper when you buy this pass. All the
discounts and restrictions that apply to the regular Europass also apply
to the Europass Youth. If you plan on driving, the Europass Drive
might be right for you. This combines the regular Europass with a car
rental. The regular Europass has five days worth of travel, however the
Europass Drive only has three non-consecutive days of travel. With the
downgraded Europass, you also receive two days of car rental. This has
unlimited mileage, but the price depends on the type of car you plan to
rent. Additional countries are not permitted; you are only limited to
the original five – Switzerland, France, Italy, Germany and Spain. This
combination pass is less expensive than the basic Europass. Europass
